Empowering Communities for a Healthier Future
Bamukong Community outreach
In partnership with SMART Kids Positive Community Association, Check Me, and Happy Me Health Foundation, we reached out to the Bamukong community. Located in the Tiko subdivision, Bamukong is a remote area that poses significant challenges for access—requiring a 45-minute ride on a motorcycle and a canoe crossing to reach.
Our Activities
During our visit, we conducted the following activities:
1. Health talks for primary 5 and 6 pupils on common illnesses such as malaria, typhoid, and nutrition.
2. Screening for hypertension among the elderly residents.
3. Guidance on dietary practices to prevent hypertension.
4. Information sessions on breast cancer awareness and self-examination techniques for women.
5. Education on proper vaginal hygiene practices.
6. Distribution of cleaning kits and instruction on effective cleaning methods.
Community Needs
Bamukong is an underserved community lacking a community health center. During our outreach, we identified several pressing needs:
– A reliable water source
– A community health center
– Immediate access to first aid kits and training for minor emergencies
– Medical support for conditions like gastritis and diabetes, including glucometers
– Educational resources, as many students lack textbooks and some children are out of school due to financial constraints
LOOKING AHEAD
The needs of the Bamukong community are significant, and we are committed to returning to address these challenges. Together with our partners, we aim to bring sustainable solutions that will improve health and education outcomes for all residents.
We invite you to support our mission. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in underserved communities. For more information or to get involved, please contact us.
